How To Prepare Green Tea With Leaves:

Green tea preparation is different than that of average black tea that we make at home. It requires some simple steps. While making green tea, do keep in mind that if the tea leaves are steeped into water that’s over 90°c they will become bitter. So keep in mind to steep it into water that’s not as hot.

So what you will need:

Green tea leaves – the basic quantity would be 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of green tea – some may also use green tea pearls
A tea strainer(washed and dried)- this step is necessary if you use this strainer to make regular black tea
A cup
A stainless steel pot
Water
Step 1:

Take one teaspoon of green tea leaves. Even if you decide to make it for the whole family, keep in mind that you take a teaspoon of tea leaves for each cup.

Now take the tea leaves in a strainer/sieve and keep aside.

Step 3:

Now take a stainless steel pot/pan and boil adequate water. If you want use a glass bowl instead. The ideal temperature for green tea is 80  ͦc  to 85°c so keep an eye on the water to make sure it’s not boiling. We need to take water near to the boiling point but not boiling. If accidentally it starts boiling, just switch off the gas/heat and let it cool a bit (for say 30 to 45 seconds) and then it should be ready for use.

Step 4:

Now place the cup/mug in which you want to make the tea. Take the sieve/ strainer and place it over the cup or mug.

Step 5:

Now we need to pour the hot water into the cup and let the tea steep for 3 minutes max. This is the step where we need to be very careful. Not everyone likes their drink strong and to see whether the tea is just right, keep a spoon handy and drink a spoonful of tea every 30/45 seconds to find out if the flavor is right.

Step 6:

Now take out the sieve once you are sure of the taste (or it’s passed 3 minutes) and keep it aside. Add some sugar( ½ teaspoon ) or if you want a healthy choice, add some honey (1 teaspoon).

Step 7:

Stir the sugar/honey in and let the drink cool a few seconds and enjoy your cup of green tea.

How To Make Green Tea With Powder:

Some may make the Tea using green tea powder which is available readily in the market. So here’s an easy way to make it using green tea powder.

You will need:

Green tea powder – 1 and ½ teaspoon,
Water – 1 cup,
Sugar – 1 teaspoon
If you are on a diet then use 1 teaspoon of honey as substitute to sugar
Step 1:

Take cup water in a stainless steel bowl or glass bowl and heat it. Remember green tea turns bitter when it is over heated so just keep a check on the temperature. Use a kitchen thermometer to see if it’s around 85°c.

Step 2:

Switch off the heat once it reaches boiling point. Now let it cool for a few seconds

Step 3:

Add the green tea powder to the water. The ideal time to soak is about 3 minutes but you may take a sip after 1 ½ minutes to check if the flavor is strong enough.

Step 4:

After 3 minutes, the colour should have changed to brown. Strain the tea powder using a strainer.

Step 5:

Add the sugar or honey to the tea and pour into the cup. You may also add a pinch of cardamom powder for an added taste.

For getting the best cup of green tea remember:

There are many variants available in the markets. Try different variants and choose the best one.
Always use good quality leaves/ powder to get the best taste.
Never add the powder to boiling water as we usually do for our normal black tea.
Always add the powder to water that is hot but not boiling. The ideal temperature is 80-85 °c for making the best cup of tea.
Add honey to the tea if you drink 3 to 4 glasses of it each day. This will reduce the amount of sugar you consume each day.
Green tea has many benefits. So if we use it as a daily drink along with healthy food and lifestyle, you will start seeing the results within a couple of weeks. Stay fit, stay healthy!
